Beautiful fall day ~ apple picking time.

Wow, what an amazingly beautiful morning it was today! I picked the girls up, and we headed back to my house. We pass Cook's Apple Orchard on the way and the girls could see all the red apples from the street. We've been talking about it all summer, every time we pass it. They asked me today about picking apples, and were so excited that I told them, yes, it's time!

We picked up Brent and headed to the orchard. They were so excited. This time, they gave us a big pole with a cage looking thing on the end. It had some claws on one side and a sponge in the bottom. I've never seen these before, but it's for picking apples from the high branches. When the apple falls in the basket, it lands on the sponge and has less chance of bruising. Both girls could make it work and they thought it was the coolest thing.

Maddison had a mission - she was looking for bright red, juicy apples. She knew exactly what she wanted too! In the end we took home almost a peck of apples.

They wanted to go to the park when we got home, but Brent had a better idea. He was trying to get them to eat something for lunch and he came up with a new sandwich.....a peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich. They absolutely loved it. Maddison asked for more, which is a miracle in itself. She just doesn't eat much at all. Then, I sliced up one of the fresh apples we had just picked and gave them a little bowl of peanut butter to dip them in. And Brent had the brainstorm of melting a couple of big marshmallows in a little bowl and having them dip their apples in that. They had so much fun with it.

Maddison running to see Brent. I had left my camera at home, so he
ran (drove) back home to get it.

Mackenzee retrieving her apple she just picked with the "claw"!

Maddison reaching for the "perfect" apple.

"See, isn't this just perfect?"

Mackenzee still using the claw.

The girls and their Papa looking for a different apple tree.

Maddison found another perfect apple.

Mackenzee insisted on carrying that long claw from tree to tree.

The girls with their almost full bags. (Each bag is 1/2 Peck)

They didn't need the claw for the tree they are standing in front of. I almost looked like a bush rose. It was covered in apples.

Cheesin' for the camera!

Maddison is explaining how the one heavy bag hurt her shoulder and Mackenzee was showing us that she could carry BOTH of them without any problems.

The apple orchard had pumpkins there for sale too. We didn't get any yet, but we used a couple to take pictures with.

Mackenzee LOVED the melted marshmallow on crackers and on her apple slices.

Aunt Laurel helping Maddison get some already cooled melted marshmallow on her apple slice.

Wow, was it ever stringy!

Close-up of the stringy marshmallow.

"Got Milk?" -- No! But I have MARSHMALLOW!!
